Morro de São Paulo is located on Tinharé Island and has no direct road access. The most popular ways to reach the island are by direct sea crossing or via a combination of short boat trips and a land segment—a method known as "semi-terrestrial." In both cases, departures are from Salvador, the capital of Bahia.

The catamaran provides a direct sea crossing between Salvador and Morro de São Paulo. The semi terrestrial transfer is completed in stages, using a speedboat, a land vehicle and another boat to reach the final destination.
The direct catamaran crossing takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. The semi terrestrial transfer takes around 3 hours and 30 minutes from Salvador Nautical Terminal. Travel times may vary according to operating and weather conditions.
In Salvador, boarding takes place at Salvador Nautical Terminal, opposite Mercado Modelo. For services departing from the airport, the meeting point is at Salvador Airport. In Morro de São Paulo, boarding and arrival take place at the main pier or at the location indicated by the operator.
Rules vary by operator. Catamaran tickets cannot be changed within 48 hours of the scheduled departure time. After this deadline, failure to show up for boarding will be treated as a "no-show," and a new transfer must be purchased. For semi-land transfers, rescheduling to the next available time slot with the same operator is possible, provided the change is requested at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time. Detailed information regarding these conditions will be included on the boarding vouchers.
Each passenger may carry up to 23 kg of baggage. The operator may charge for excess weight according to its rules and the volume being transported.
When the direct crossing cannot be performed safely, the service will be switched to a semi terrestrial route. In this case, the travel time may increase by up to one hour. Decisions are made by the operators and captains responsible for navigational safety.
Arrival takes place at the Morro de São Paulo pier. Since vehicle traffic is restricted on the island, passengers proceed to their accommodation on foot. Independent porters are available at the pier to transport luggage on carts for a fee.
